At 86 years young, Mary had never travelled outside of the UK. For most of her life, her holidays consisted of trips to Norfolk or Skegness. While she had always enjoyed those breaks, she secretly had a dream: to go on a cruise.When Mary heard about one of our ladies' group holidays, she decided to take a leap of faith and join us. I organised a group of eight ladies from Leicester to sail from Southampton aboard the P&O Iona. Every detail was taken care of, including transfers from Leicester to Southampton, allowing the ladies to relax and enjoy the experience from the moment they left home. As soon as we boarded the ship, Mary quietly told me she was scared of the water. I was surprised. After all, she had just stepped onto a cruise ship! It turned out she wasn't worried about the sea at all. She meant the swimming pool. During dinner that evening, Mary shared with the group that she had never been in a swimming pool in her entire life. The next morning, I witnessed something truly special. Six of the ladies gathered around Mary, held her hands, encouraged her, and gently helped her take those first steps into the pool. There was laughter, cheering, and plenty of support as Mary overcame a fear she had carried for 86 years. It was a moment that perfectly captured what our ladies' travel community is all about, friendship, encouragement, and creating unforgettable memories together. A year later, Mary joined another cruise with a group of 12 ladies. This time, she arrived with a new goal. She was determined to swim by herself.
